I am delighted that the Hong Kong Chapter of The Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain has established a website. Chapters allow overseas members to have contact with others in their area, to be a contributing part of the larger Society and to promote photography to anyone with an interest in photography. Having a website will add another dimension to current meetings and events and contribute significantly to promoting the Chapter’s activities. I congratulate you on the launch of the Chapter website in January 2010.

The Royal Photographic Society was established in 1853 to promote the art and science of photography. As an educational charity with a Royal Charter it purpose remains to educate members of the general public by increasing their knowledge and understanding of Photography and in doing so to promote the highest standards of achievement in Photography in order to encourage public appreciation in Photography. The Society organises a large number of exhibitions, events and activities, centrally and through its Group, Regional and Overseas Chapter network.

You can view The Royal Photographic Society’s website by clicking on the link at the top of this page.

Chapter events are open to both members and non-members, who are always welcome. Anyone is welcome to join The Society but many members have achieved the Society’s world recognised Distinctions, allowing them use the letters FRPS, ARPS, or LRPS. There are currently 35 Fellows (FRPS, which recognises excellence and distinguished ability), 85 Associates (ARPS) and 9 Licentiates (LRPS) in Hong Kong. Most submissions comprise a portfolio of images and details of the requirements can be found at www.rps.org/distinctions

I hope that this website will help the Hong Kong Chapter reach many more interested photographers and I wish you success in this mission.
